Following their rescue from a property in Limpopo, 16 vultures have returned to the wild with tracked birds returning immediately to their nests.
On August 28, the Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) Birds of Prey Unit was alerted to vultures on a property in Limpopo. The birds were unable to fly. With help from the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre, 18 birds were taken to Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre while Hope for Wildlife Pilot Jana Meyer assisted with a helicopter search for other grounded birds.

Despite intensive care, two vultures unfortunately died. The remaining 16 recovered and were released at Moholoholo on September 5, International Vulture Awareness Day. The group included three critically endangered hooded vultures, 12 critically endangered white-backed vultures and one vulnerable Cape vulture.

According to the EWT, getting the adults back into the wild quickly was important as most had brood patches, indicating they had chicks waiting in their nests.
