Meetings Africa is set to grow business dealings between local companies involved with business tourism and African markets this year with increased participation from associations in these countries, says South African Tourism.
“We want to grow African visitors and exhibitors,” says Nomasonto Ndlovu, Global Manager: Business Tourism. At the same time however, Ndlovu says the organisation is being very careful of the quality of visitors that it allows to attend.
Ndlovu says important attendees from African countries last year were asked to refer members of their local industry that should be involved. This includes the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, which was asked to invite the associations they deal with in Kenya.
The organisation is also dealing with SADC travel trade members to better identify industry stakeholders that service the business tourism arena across the subcontinent. This has led to a better profile of African visitors, says Ndlovu.
This year, tourism boards from African countries have also been invited in order to better their understanding of the exhibition in the hopes of increasing other countries’ presence in the future. This action also aims to increase the tourism boards’ awareness of the potential for business tourism.
