Expedia has reported outstanding bookings over the period of the World Cup for independent travellers that saw interest peak from non-traditional markets as well as increased activity from core source markets for South Africa.

Ross Kata, Regional Director Africa, says that although it is difficult to identify trends from the booking statistics so close to the period of the World Cup, it must be taken into consideration that the largest increases percentage-wide are from markets that had small base booking numbers in previous years.

An increase from the following points of origin can be seen from those markets that originally had high base numbers already:
- USA: 78%
- France: 14%
- Australia: 53%
- Canada: 46%
- Netherlands: 15%
- Spain: 77%

Kata furthers that markets that showed slower growth over the tournament include England and Germany. He says that the reason behind the slowed bookings in the British market could be as a result of the English team being knocked out of the tournament in its early stages.
