AIRPORTS Company South Africa (Acsa) reported a R444m profit for the 2008/09 financial year, down 43.7% from last year’s R789m.
Acsa md, Monhla Hlahla, said the organization was satisfied with the results considering the market constraints, attributed to the global economic recession and a decrease in passenger numbers. “It is only through challenges that we can learn to focus,” she said. Hlahla added that 2009 has been even tougher than 2008. “I think that we can be proud of what we have achieved, given the difficult climate we are operating in,” she said.
Acsa spent R4,185bn on infrastructure over the past year, including R889m at OR Tambo, R811m at Cape Town International, R2,388bn on the development at La Mercy and R50m at domestic airports.
Other figures to note:
• Passenger traffic decreased by 7,7%
• Revenue increased by 13,2% to R3.1bn
• Total domestic passengers declined by 10.5%
• Total international passengers declined by 0,8%
